Parangi Pattai, also called China Root, is a shrub-type plant. The thickest part of this root can be found in the mountains and hills. The forest is where it grows thickest. From sea level up to 2000 meters, it grows on hillsides, grassy slopes, and shaded areas along streams or valleys. Once the seedlings germinate, you can prick the plants into individual pots. Once the plant is large enough, you can grow it in a greenhouse for at least one year. This plant is commonly grown in pots in the greenhouse for two years before being planted permanently in early summer. Divide in the early spring when new growth starts. Planting larger divisions directly into permanent positions is possible.
